A phrase to describe a concept where side by side money is…
Money which cannot be listed as a reserve for loan making purposes within a debt based fractional reserve banking system. This money can be listed as an asset on a bank balance sheet in the same way that land and buildings are listed. This money functions everywhere as money with the exception of as a reserve within a fractional reserve banking system.

Side By Side Money (SBSM) is a proposal for a hybrid money system for The United States. The suggestion is that congress has the authority to issue money. This can be done most easily by issuing highly denominated U.S. coins. These coins would function within the current money system with few if any changes needed.
The benefits can be evaluated. It is likely that a hybrid system would allow the electorate/congress to effect change more easily.
Prerequisite studies make it easier to understand this proposal. (The study of money systems, central banking, public policy, history and accounting)
